Homes evacuated as police blow up ‘suspicious package’ outside North Korean embassy in west London

Police closed roads and evacuated homes as they carried out a controlled explosion outside the North Korean embassy in west London.

Officers were called to a “suspicious item” shortly before 8pm outside the semi-detached house in Ealing, Scotland Yard said.

They destroyed the item, which was discovered in Gunnserbury Avenue, at about 9.30pm and confirmed that it was found to be non-suspicious.

A Metropolitan Police spokeswoman said: “Road closures were put in place and nearby properties were evacuated as a precaution.

“A controlled explosion took place at around 21:28 hours. The item was found to be non-suspicious.”

Roads have since been reopened.

The North Korean embassy is in a seven-bedroom residential house on the street.
