Westminster VIP abuse accuser: I was abused by Jimmy Savile

A man on trial accused of lying about a Westminster VIP paedophile ring told police he was abused by Jimmy Savile, a court has heard.

Jurors were shown the first recorded police interview with Carl Beech, where he wept as he recounted being abused by his stepfather and the disgraced TV presenter.

Beech, who has himself been described at Newcastle Crown Court as a “committed and manipulative paedophile”, was first recorded by Wiltshire Police at a specialist unit in Swindon in 2012, alleging he had been abused as a schoolboy.

The 51-year-old former nurse from Gloucester told Detective Constable Mark Lewis his stepfather, the late Major Ray Beech, started beating him soon after he and his mother, the Rev Charmian Beech, moved into the officer’s accommodation on a military base.

Sitting on a red sofa, wearing a hoodie and beige trousers, Beech told the detective the Major moved on to kissing him, and later committed sex acts on him and forced him to do the same.

Beech alleged his stepfather later took him to an Army base where an officer older than Major Beech, whom he believed to be a Lieutenant Colonel, made him undress and looked at him.

Beech wept as he told the detective: “He said I had done well and he said he was really pleased as they wanted to spend time with me and that I was to do exactly as I was told without question, without hesitation.

“He put my head under water and I couldn’t breathe, and every time he let me up he kept saying ‘do you understand’ and I did understand, but he did do it again.”

The detective said he picked up the case after Beech first made allegations to the Metropolitan Police as part of Operation Yewtree into Jimmy Savile, and when he first met him, prior to the video interview, Beech only named his stepfather and Savile among his abusers.

Beech was to claim that he and other children were sexually abused by powerful figures – including the former prime minister Ted Heath, the head of the Army and security chiefs – in the 1970s.

Others he named included the former MP Harvey Proctor, the late Lord Brittan and other Army generals, claiming three children were murdered by the ring.

Opening the prosecution case on Wednesday, Tony Badenoch QC, said the former nurse has previously admitted making and possessing indecent images and voyeurism.

Beech denies 12 counts of perverting the course of justice and one of fraud relating to a £22,000 criminal injuries claim.
