The fast food giant is hailed for bringing a lot of great things into our lives: mouth-watering milkshakes, drive-thru dining, unapologetically super-sized French fries and let’s not forget Big Macs.
Alas, there is one thing that continues to dazzle McDonald’s fans.
It’s the motherland of soft drinks: the iconic fountain Coca-Cola.
The fast food chain is Coke’s largest restaurant customer.
So, how do the McDonald’s mavericks put their own unique stamp on the nation’s favourite fizzy drink?
Far from an accidental success, McDonald’s have admitted that while they follow guidelines set by Coca-Cola, they take a fair few matters into their own hands to ensure they’re serving the best pop fizz out there.
They have their supply of Coke syrup delivered in special stainless steel containers, rather than the run-of-the-mill plastic packaging that most retailers use.
This helps to preserve the drinks freshness and unique flavour, The New York Times reports.
But that’s not all.
“The water and Coca-Cola syrup are pre-chilled before entering our fountain dispensers with the ratio of syrup set to allow for ice to melt,” McDonald’s revealed on their website.
“We also keep our fountain beverage system cold so your drink can always be at the peak of refreshing. In order to ensure our drinks are always meeting a gold standard, we have proper filtration methods in place.”
Then there’s the signature McDonald’s straw – an art of masterful construction in itself. “It’s slightly wider than a typical straw, so all that Coke taste can hit all your tastebuds,” they write.
Suddenly, the world makes sense.
