Mercedes-Benz reveals pricing for facelifted 2018 C-Class saloon and estate

In a world where finance and fleet deals seem to rule the market, getting hung up on actual list prices seems something of an anachronism. Yet without it, there would be no opportunity for commentators to express their disbelief at how expensive cars are these days.

Thankfully, Mercedes-Benz has announced pricing and specification for the recently refreshed C-Class saloon and estate, allowing armchair enthusiasts to shake their heads at a starting price of £33,180 for the entry-level C 200 SE saloon, or £1,200 more for the equivalent estate version.

Although it might be the starting point for the junior executive Mercedes, the C 200 features a new 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine mated to a 48-volt mild-hybrid system, known as EQ Boost. The latter adds 14hp, taking overall output to 184hp, and making the C 200 capable of up to 46.2mpg, with CO2 emissions from 136g/km.

Despite being a dirty word, diesel is still available for those who need it. The C 220 d uses a four-cylinder turbocharged engine to deliver 194hp, and the potential of 61.4mpg and 117g/km of CO2.

Three trim levels are on offer, with the aforementioned SE spec followed by Sport, and then AMG Line. SE cars come with 17-inch alloy wheels, comfort-tuned suspension, reversing camera, and a 10.25-inch multimedia display with satellite navigation as standard.

Sport trim adds an extra £1,650 to the bill, but gives buyers performance LED headlights, comfort suspension lowered by 15mm, and sports seats. AMG Line costs an additional £1,495 over Sport, but brings an AMG bodykit, sports suspension, 18-inch alloy wheels, and uprated brakes to let everyone know that you are top dog in the office car park.

All models benefit from a new nine-speed 9G-Tronic automatic gearbox, with rear-wheel drive as standard. 4Matic 4WD can be picked for the petrol C 200 AMG Line for a £1,600 premium, with Vehicle Excise Duty also pushed from £205 to £515 accordingly.

Prices for the new Mercedes-AMG C43 4Matic have also been revealed, with the 3.0-litre V6 Bi-Turbo now priced at £49,675 and £50,875 for the saloon and estate versions respectively. That price does include an output of 390hp, and the ability to do 0-62mph in 4.7 seconds with an electronically limited top speed of 155mph.

AMG bodystyling, performance suspension, 18-inch alloy wheels, special badging, and even red seat belts mark the C43 out as a true AMG car. Buyers can also opt for the £1,000 performance exhaust system, or £1,260 exterior carbon fibre package, should they wish to make their C43 AMG more noticeable.

Mercedes-Benz dealerships are taking orders now, with the first cars expected to arrive in the UK from July.
