New Ferrari F8 Tributo is fastest mid-engined Ferrari yet

Ferrari has surprised the world by releasing first images of a new mid-engined supercar, called the F8 Tributo, that’s destined for the Geneva motor show next week.

The replacement for the 488 GTB has a mid-mounted 3.9-litre V8 producing 710bhp – 49bhp more than its predecessor and comparable to the limited-run 488 Pista.

This translates to a 0-62mph time of 2.9sec (0.1sec faster than the 488 GTB), a 0-124mph of 7.8sec and a top speed of 211mph. Torque is put at 568lb ft – an increase of 9lb ft.

The F8 Tributo has been named in reference to its powertrain – the most powerful V8 ever fitted to a production Ferrari – and the two-seater, mid-rear-engined layout used for celebrated Ferrari sports cars, such as the 355 and 360.

Alongside a weight reduction of around 40kg and a 15% increase in downforce, the F8 Tributo benefits from a 10% improvement in aerodynamic efficiency and the latest version of Ferrari’s Side Slip Angle Control system.

Some styling features, including the “rearward-angled” front radiators and rear air intakes, are carried over from the 488 Pista, while a smaller steering wheel and redesigned S-duct intake distinguish the new model from its predecessor.

Louvres on the transparent engine cover are a design reference to the Ferrari F40 and the twin rear light clusters are a modern interpretation of those that featured on the 1975 308 GTB, the first eight-cylinder Berlinetta.

Ferrari has given no indication yet of the F8 Tributo’s pricing, on-sale date or delivery date, but expect that information to become public in the next few weeks.
