National governments across the EU have named their candidates for the next European Commission, which will be headed by Germany’s Ursula von der Leyen. Here is a rundown of the names on the table so far.
UPDATE: After Emmanuel Macron named Sylvie Goulard as his pick on 27 August, only Italy is yet to make a nomination. Romania is still to narrow its candidates down from two to one.
After an informal deadline of 26 August for all names to be submitted to the incoming Commission came and went, von der Leyen is now holding meetings with the prospective candidates.
A full list will only be released once that process is over. Confirmed nominees will then be grilled by Parliamentary committees starting in late September and then face a confirmation vote by MEPs in October.
Stay tuned to this Commissioner tracker, which will be updated with any new developments and will follow the candidates through their confirmation hearings in the European Parliament.
