David Beckham has shared a sneak peek at his forthcoming cameo in Modern Family – and some fans still aren’t convinced by his acting skills.
The former footballer is set to appear in the US sitcom’s final season alongside Friends star Courteney Cox and Stephen Merchant, who plays a butler named Higgins.
In the clip, Beckham can be heard saying: ”Higgins, so myself and Courteney are expecting a bowling instructor. Would you have him meet us downstairs at the bowling alley please?”
His delivery was met with some raised eyebrows, with one person commenting: “Acting skills very debatable.”
Referencing his stunted delivery, another quipped: ”So… Myself… And… Courteney… Are… Expecting… A… Bowling… Instructor.”
Another commented: “Defrost, dude.”
His previous acting work includes a cameo in Guy Ritchie’s King Arthur film back in 2017, which was also poorly received by viewers.
Beckham, who described the experience as “fun”, was previously photographed in a hot tub alongside Cox and the sitcom’s stars Jesse Tyler Ferguson (Mitchell) and Eric Stonestreet (Cam).
The cameo appearance will feature in the 11th season’s next episode, which will be broadcast in the US on Wednesday (8 January).
While Modern Family‘s audience has declined in recent seasons, it still consistently ranks among ABC’s top five scripted series.
Last August, the show’s cast – including Julie Bowen, Ed O’NeillL and Sofia Vergara – recreated a group photo from their very first table read back in 2009.
Modern Family is available to watch in the UK on NOW TV.
