Twenty-two Cypriot artists have contributed to the fight against the coronavirus pandemic by uniting their voices to send a hopeful message – that together, we can!
The project began as an initiative of songwriter Stavros Stavrou who appealed to his Facebook friends to respond to a post with a word of their choice. The purpose was to write a song in 24 hours including all these words, to demonstrate that together we can do this.
The response was great with more than 200 words submitted within a few hours. The lyricist used the words to compile a song – ‘To Tragoudi Mas’ – and after publishing the lyrics the following day, various composers arranged them to music, posting their versions on their personal pages. One of them was young composer Nikolas Savvidis.
The project further developed after singer Salina Gavala lead 22 Cypriot artists from all musical backgrounds, to join their voices together, from the comfort of their own homes, to create a song that speaks about all the beautiful things in the world, the small things in life that are now so much bigger than the greater things it has to offer.
‘To Tragoudi Mas’ is performed by Hovig Angelos Augoustis, Salina Gavala, Stella Georgiadou, Loukas Giorkas, Andreas Ektoras, Evridiki, Annita Konstantinou, Michalis Marinos, Dimitris Mesimeris, Tefkros Neokleous, Alex Panagi, Giorgos Papadopoulos, Katerina Paraschou, Elena Patroklou, Sophia Patsalidou, Mariella Savvidou, Nikolas Savvidis, Ermogenis Skitinis, Giorgos Stamataris, Valanto Tryfonos and Konstantinos Christoforou.
All proceeds from the song will be donated by its producers and the record label DNG Motivation Music – 14 Music, to the Republic of Cyprus, to support the fight against coronavirus.
Cyprus President Nikos Anastasiades, in a social media post, sent his congratulations to the artists for the project.
Prior to the release of the single, famous Cypriot and Greek artists, instigated by actor Andreas Georgiou, took to social media for their rendition of the emotional ‘Hrysoprasino Fillo’, offering hope and optimism to the people.
In a moving post on Andreas’ social media platforms, well-known actors, singers and journalists are each shown performing a few lyrics to the song, moulded together into one video.
They include Anna Vissi, Chrysanthos Tsouroullis, Andri Karantoni, Koullis Nikolaou, Christina Pavlidou, Michalis Sophocleous, Loui Patsalides, Elli Kyriakidou, Tasos Tryfonos amongst many others.
