The progress and strategic importance of the Greece-Egypt electricity interconnection project (GREGY Interconnection) was presented by the vice president of the Copelouzos Group, Thomas Achimastos, at the Egypt Energy Show (EGYPES) 2025 conference, which was held in Cairo this week.
Achimastos spoke of the multiple benefits of the interconnection, both for Greece and Egypt and for the entire European energy market.
As he said, by transferring green electricity from Egypt to Europe, the GREGY project will contribute to: the provision of cheap and green energy from renewable sources, enhancing sustainable development; the creation of a new energy route that makes the Eastern Mediterranean a pillar of sustainable development; diversifying energy sources and reducing dependence on fossil fuels; and supporting the export-minded profile and competitiveness of European industry.
