Health and the upgrading of services for vulnerable population groups was set as a priority by the Government, said Minister of Health Michalis Damianos, welcoming the launch of a separate waiting area for children at the Accident and Emergency (A&E) Department of Limassol General Hospital on Friday.
The Minister visited the new waiting area in the recently created pediatric A&E at the city’s public hospital on Friday morning and spoke with doctors of the Department.
At a preceding press conference, Michalis Damianos expressed his satisfaction that in the coming months the works for the independent Paediatric Clinic will be completed and noted that with its establishment, the Children’s A&E will be staffed exclusively by paediatricians and, apart from examination rooms, one for infants and one for adolescents, it will also include short-stay facilities.
He stressed that the Ministry of Health is placing an emphasis on the A&E Departments, expanding infrastructure and services in Public Hospitals, such as the Paediatric A&E and the Rapid Transit Clinics.
He reiterated the Ministry’s intention to contribute positively to the upgrading of services with the ultimate recipient being the patient and reaffirmed that “we will be supportive in your efforts.”
On his part, the President of State Health Services Organisation, Marinos Kallis, noted that of the 120 patients who visit the A&E daily, about 15 are children under the age of 16, “who are treated excellently,” and pointed out that with the operation of the Pediatric A&E, the people of Limassol will receive even better medical treatment.
