Greece’s ancient wonders glow under the August full moon

Greece’s archaeological sites, monuments and museums will open their doors under the August full moon on Friday, August 28, as the Culture Ministry holds its annual nationwide celebration for the 27th consecutive year.

A total of 126 sites across the country will offer free admission for the evening. Sixty-one will host cultural events, including theater performances, concerts, dance events, exhibitions and guided tours, while another 65 will remain open to visitors free of charge, generally from around 7:30 or 8 p.m. until 11 p.m. or midnight.

The program will extend beyond the night of the full moon, with additional events scheduled for Aug. 26, 27, 29 and 30.

The events are organized by Culture Ministry services, often in cooperation with regional and local authorities and cultural organizations, offering visitors an opportunity to experience some of Greece’s most important heritage sites after dark.

The program is subject to updates and is available on the Culture Ministry website.
