Α powerful storm swept through the Cyclades on Monday, leaving widespread damage on Paros (photo) and Mykonos, both of which were placed under a state of emergency on Tuesday until the end of April.
The storm, described as the worst in two decades for Paros, caused flash floods, infrastructure damage, and property destruction.
“There was minimal rain today, even a little sunshine in the morning, which allowed people to start cleaning up,” said Giannis Kouzoumis, a local architect.
The hardest-hit areas were Naousa and Kamares, where flooded homes, damaged roads, and landslides disrupted daily life.
Shops and two schools on Paros were also affected, but local officials confirmed classes would resume.
The storm’s impact extended beyond the Cyclades, with Rhodes and Crete also reporting severe weather.
In Hania, Mayor Panagiotis Simandirakis said flooded roads and stranded vehicles caused disruptions, though no injuries were reported.
In northern Greece, heavy rainfall made travel difficult, while power was restored to storm-hit villages on Evia.
