Greece among top food wasters in Europe, EU data shows

Greece ranks among the EU’s highest food wasters, with an estimated 200 kg of food wasted per person each year, according to EU data.

Europe wastes around 58 million tons of food annually, with households accounting for half of that and the remainder from the broader food supply chain.

Only Cyprus (300 kg per person) and Denmark (250 kg per person) report higher per capita food waste, well above the EU average of 131 kg per person.

In contrast, Slovenia, Croatia, Spain, Hungary and Bulgaria each waste less than 100 kg per person annually.
