Greece hosts Denmark in World Cup qualifier on Monday

Greece is looking to build on a strong start in the World Cup qualifying round when it faces Denmark on Monday night in Piraeus.

The Greeks opened Group C with a 5-1 win over Belarus on Friday, while Denmark and Scotland played to a scoreless draw in Copenhagen.

Coach Ivan Jovanovic’s squad is riding at the top of the group, and a victory at Karaiskakis Stadium would strengthen its position ahead of an October 9 trip to Scotland.

Greece missed out on the 2018 and 2022 World Cups but is hoping to challenge for first place in the group, with Denmark expected to be its toughest rival.

In 15 previous meetings, Greece has three wins and eight losses against Denmark. The teams last met in a 2009 friendly that ended 1-1.
