Greece’s meteorological service has issued an orange warning for severe weather on Monday, forecasting heavy rain and thunderstorms across much of the country.
Strong southerly winds will affect the Ionian Sea on Sunday and the Aegean Sea on Monday, reaching up to 8 on the Beaufort scale in some areas.
Isolated snow showers are expected in the mountains of western and northern Greece.
Heavy rain and storms are expected Monday in western Greece until midday; in northern and northeastern regions in the morning; across Crete and the eastern Aegean islands in the afternoon; and around Athens through midday. Some storms in the northwest and eastern Aegean could be severe, the bulletin said.
Sunday will see partly cloudy skies with scattered showers in northeastern Greece, the eastern islands and the Dodecanese.
Visibility may be reduced inland due to morning fog. Temperatures will range from 15 to16 degrees Celsius in the north to 17 to 19 degrees in central and southern areas, reaching locally 20 degrees in southern regions.
Authorities have urged residents and travelers to monitor updates and exercise caution amid strong winds and heavy rainfall, particularly in exposed coastal areas.
