The Greek Orthodox Diocese of Adelaide once again took part in the city’s annual Walk for Life, joining an estimated 4,200 participants who marched on Saturday, February 7.

This year’s event followed a new route around Government House rather than Parliament House, with King William Road temporarily closed for around 20 minutes as marchers made their way through the CBD.

Organisers described the gathering as a strong show of support for the pro-life movement, noting that several recent pro-life bills in South Australia were narrowly defeated – a result viewed by supporters as both disappointing and indicative of growing public engagement on the issue.

The march drew a large number of young families, children and students, who formed the majority of those in attendance.

The Orthodox community was visibly represented, with His Grace Bishop Silouan of Adelaide present alongside clergy and faithful. Participants carried icons of the Visitation of the Theotokos to St Elizabeth and the Pregnant Panagia, marching behind the Archdiocesan flag.

The Central Philoptochos and members of the ICC also contributed to the family-focused atmosphere by organising refreshments and facilities for attendees.

The Diocese expressed hope that the annual event will continue to grow and foster ongoing public discussion on the sanctity of human life.
