Heads of European institutions, leaders and representatives of states and governments as well as representatives of other organisations and bodies will attend the opening ceremony of the Cyprus EU Presidency Wednesday, at the Cyprus Theatre Organization building in Nicosia.
Cyprus assumed the European Union’s rotating presidency on Wednesday, starting its term with a meeting attended by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, European Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President Antonio Costa.
Deputy Minister for European Affairs Marilena Raouna briefed on Friday the Cyprus diaspora, which met in Nicosia, on the upcoming assumption by the Republic of Cyprus of the Presidency of the Council of the EU, the first half of 2026.

Cyprus’ presidency of the Council of the EU in 2026 must be significantly more successful than the first presidency held by the Republic in 2012, said on Saturday the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, while addressing an event in Nicosia by the co-ruling Democratic Alignment (DEPA) party, to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the country’s accession to the EU.
