German yellow press is trying to shape the future European Media Freedom Act, and the European Parliament rapporteur is helping them, the president of the European Federation of Journalists, Renate Schroeder, told a conference in Brussels on Thursday (27 April).
The Council of Europe’s (CoE) annual report on the safety of journalists highlighted ‘continuous backsliding’ of press freedoms in both EU member states and third countries, citing violence, use of spyware, and “strategic lawsuits” against journalists as key problems.
The European Federation of Journalists (EFJ) condemns the legal actions aimed at muzzling and intimidating the press in the context of the scandal of illegal government practices in Greece, in particular the tapping of journalists and politicians.
