The European Commission has moved to “compel” Microsoft to provide information about generative artificial intelligence (AI) risks on its Bing search engine, threatening it with a fine, according to a statement on Friday (17 May).
Chinese hackers have been targeting various important networks in the United States since at least mid-2021, aiming at key sectors such as telecommunications and transportation. This information comes from Microsoft and several cybersecurity agencies from the Five Eyes alliance, a group of countries that cooperate on intelligence matters.
A long-standing criticism that Microsoft has set unfair terms for running software services, like Windows, on competitors’ cloud infrastructure might result in EU antitrust scrutiny following a new complaint.
