Latvia, through its Premier Evika Siliņa, expressed on Thursday support for Cyprus’ full admission into the Schengen Area. The Prime Minister held a working lunch in honor of Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides who is visiting Riga ahead of the island assuming the EU Presidency, the first half of 2026.
Bulgaria has met the conditions to join Europe’s passport-free Schengen area by strengthening its borders and efforts to combat illegal migration, the Netherlands said Friday (15 December), as Sofia took one step closer to joining.
Croatia will join the EU’s passport-free Schengen area in January after EU home affairs ministers approved their application on Thursday (8 December) but again blocked applications by Bulgaria and Romania.
