Defence Minister discusses in Israel regional security and bilateral relations.

Cyprus’ Minister of Defence, Vasilis Palmas, paid a visit to Israel on December 14th and 15th, during which he met with his Israeli counterpart, Israel Katz. The two Ministers discussed issues concerning the situation as regards security in Cyprus, Israel, the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East.

According to a press release issued by the Ministry of Defence, the two Ministers discussed issues relating to bilateral relations in the fields of defence and security.

Palmas pointed out that, within the framework of the upcoming Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the Cypriot Government will focus on strengthening European unity and promoting strategic stability and regional cooperation in the Eastern Mediterranean.

In this context, efforts will be made to deepen cooperation with Israel by encouraging dialogue and collaboration in areas of mutual interest, while also promoting regional peace, stability, and respect for international rules and international law.

During his stay in Israel, the Minister of Defence also visited the Civil-Military Coordination Center (CMCC), which operates as a central coordination hub among military, humanitarian, international, and other organisations, supporting the implementation of the ceasefire and stabilization efforts in Gaza, and met with its Commander, Lieutenant General Patrick Frank.
