President Nikos Christodoulides and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas stressed the need for peace, security and stability in the region during talks at the Presidential Palace in Nicosia on Thursday 29 October.
Abbas is visiting Cyprus for a working visit scheduled for October 29–30, with bilateral relations and regional developments on the agenda.
During the meeting, Abbas highlighted the close relationship between Cyprus and the Palestinian people. He also referred to Cyprus’ relations with Israel, saying Nicosia could play a mediating role in pursuing a political solution based on international law and UN Security Council resolutions.
According to an earlier statement by Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis, the planned discussions included Cyprus’ humanitarian role and the Amalthea maritime corridor for delivering aid to Gaza.
EU–Palestine relations and developments in the Cyprus issue were also among the subjects scheduled for discussion. A working lunch was planned following the meeting.
This was the third meeting between the two presidents since Christodoulides’ election, following their previous talks in Palestine in May 2025.
Letymbiotis said Cyprus and Palestine shared longstanding historical relations, with close political ties and cooperation between their peoples.
