Approximately 2,500 years have passed since the era of Themistocles, the great general and politician of the Athenian Democracy, yet his strategy to protect the city-state from the Persians remains relevant.

Today, the art of strategy in business draws lessons from Themistocles’ approach, recognizing that the core principles of analysis, adaptation, and execution of plans are crucial in the business arena as well.

The similarities to military strategy are evident: both require foresight, planning capability, and the ability to adapt to evolving conditions.

In the context of this connection, a seminar was held at the Herakleidon Museum, close to Themistocles ancient residence in Thiseio on November 23, 2024, aimed at supporting the Museum and educating members of AHEPA, organized by Ahepa Hellas Solon HJ04.

The speaker at the event Dr. Athanasios Platias, a board member of the Chapter’s Education Committee. He is a Professor of Strategy in the Department of International and European Studies at the University of Piraeus. He taught for 18 years (1989-2007) in the Department of International and European Studies at the Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences.

AHEPA ATHENS – CHALANDRI SOLON members journeyed from the strategy of Ancient Athens and the significance of naval dominance to the present day, analyzing success stories of major companies and understanding the importance of applying and revising strategies according to circumstances. The discussion revolved around the challenges and opportunities faced by modern businesses, highlighting the importance of strategic adaptation.

This seminar was a reminder of the significance of strategic planning, deeply rooted in the teachings of the past.

At the beginning of the seminar, an award ceremony was held for Point Fighting athlete Marina Fovaki, presented by the Director of Athletics, Andrew Garifalos.
