President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, and Turkish Cypriot leader, Ersin Tatar, are among the guests expected to attend the annual, end-of-year reception hosted by the UN Secretary General’s Special Representative in Cyprus, Colin Stewart, set to take place on Monday evening.
The leaders of the two communities on the island are among the guests, as well as members of the diplomatic community and the civil society.
Cyprus has been divided since the 1974 illegal Turkish invasion. Numerous peace talks under the UN aegis with the aim to reunite the island under a federal roof failed to yield results. The latest round of talks took place in the summer of 2017 in the Swiss resort of Crans-Montana.
