The Government’s primary concern and main priority is to ensure the quality and continuous upgrading of the education syste, President Nikos Christodoulides said Friday during an event where the bust of educator Costas Liasides was unveiled, in Paphos, next to the premises of the Technical Services Department of the Municipality.
The President described Liasides as a progressive patriot, a tireless servant of education, who recognised the value and legacy of education for the young generations.
He noted that during complex social and political circumstances he decided to establish a private secondary school in Paphos, which became a beacon of learning and transmission of knowledge.
Liasideion Commercial Lyceum of Paphos, later the College of Paphos, the President noted, gave to children with limited financial means the opportunity to study and formatted their characters with ethos and love for their homeland.
President Christodoulides conveyed the government’s vision for the continuous advancement of education in our country, in accordance with the needs of the times and the younger generations.
He went on to say that during the two years of his administration, the government has promoted targeted policies that are implemented through flexible, innovative learning processes and pedagogical approaches which include changes in the curricula.
He also said that “the aim is for our schools to operate in a qualitative and creative manner.”
He went on to specifically praise the students of Paphos region who score high marks in entrance exams.
The President also referred to projects such as the earthquake-resistant upgrade and general improvement of the elementary schools at the village of Timi and Chlorakas and the expansion of the Apostolos Pavlos Secondary School and other maintenance and improvement projects in school buildings in the district.
