Cypriot diaspora to converge in Nicosia for their annual meeting

Under the slogan “From the seas of the world….to the land that unites us” the World Conference of Cyprus Diaspora will be held next week in Nicosia.

The meeting will be held from 26-29 August and is organised by the Expatriates and Repatriates Service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in cooperation with the leaderships of the World Federation of Overseas Cypriots (POMAK), the International Coordinating Committee “Justice for Cyprus” (PSEKA) as well as the World Organisation for Young Overseas Cypriots (NEPOMAK).

It aims to highlight the role of the Cypriot diaspora as a valuable link between Cyprus and the countries where overseas Cypriots live and are active, a Ministry of Foreign Affairs press release said here today.

Representatives of the Cypriot diaspora from around the world will participate in the Conference.

They will have the opportunity to be informed by the competent officials of the Republic of Cyprus about the latest developments in the Cyprus issue, as well as matters of foreign policy, energy, defence, missing persons, education, and talent repatriation. Additionally, topics related to Cyprus’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the first half of 2026 will be discussed, the press release added.

One of the conference’s highlights will be the reception which the President of the Republic will host where he will honour prominent members of the diaspora.

In addition, on the 28th of August, the delegates will attend a gathering at Athienou in honour of the late benefactor and Athienou native, Nikos Mouyiaris.

A concert will also be held at Skali Aglantzia on the 29th August entitled “Nothing is over yet” with the participation of Cypriot artists. The concert will mark the 51 years since the 1974 Turkish invasion and occupation of the island’s northern third.

The opening of the proceedings will be declared by the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides.

The opening ceremony will be held on August 26 at the Nicosia Municipal Theatre. It will be broadcast live on CyBC at 1900 and will be open to the public. A musical performance will precede speeches with Vasilis Philippou in vocals and percussion, Odysseas Toumazou, guitar and Christos Isidorou playing the lafta and pithkiavli.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Konstantinos Kombos will welcome delegates while the President of the World Federation of Overseas Cypriots (POMAK), Andreas Papaevripides, the President of the International Coordinating Committee – Justice for Cyprus (PSEKA), Philip Christopher and the President of the Youth World Federation of Overseas Cypriots (NEPOMAK), Christos Tuton will address the opening ceremony.

Representing the Greek government is Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ioannis-Michael Loverdos who will also address the opening ceremony while the President of the House of Representatives, Annita Demetriou and His Beatitude Archbishop of Cyprus Georgios will also address the delegates.

The President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides will be the keynote speaker before declaring the opening of the Conference.
