Dimitris Strepkos reflects on his journey into the world of fashion, tracing the path from scenography and costume design to establishing his own avant-garde brand, Celebrity Skin. He discusses his creative philosophy, international recognition, inspirations and a sustainable approach to materials and planning, offering insight into a distinctive vision that prioritizes individuality, artistic expression, and innovation over trends.
How did your career in fashion begin and what led you from scenography and costume design to creating your own brand?
I always loved fashion. Alongside theatre, I was passionate about fashion magazines and fashion editorials. Gradually, I began working in styling and art direction, and in 2009, I created the brand Celebrity Skin.
What has been the most important moment or achievement in your career as a fashion designer so far?
The fact that international fashion weeks invite me to present my creations, such as London Fashion Week, Mexico Fashion Week, Romania Fashion Week and Serbia Fashion Week. It is wonderful to be respected and to be invited to showcase your work internationally.
What are the most memorable collaborations you have had in fashion or other artistic fields?
Every collaboration is important and has helped strengthen the brand.
Can you tell us about the brand Celebrity Skin and how its name came about?
Celebrity Skin is an avant-garde fashion brand featuring unique handmade creations for clients with strong identities who dare to be themselves.
What materials do you prefer to use in your collections and how do you select them?
Organic materials, environmentally friendly fabrics, vintage textiles and old buttons. Our philosophy is sustainable fashion.
What is your main source of inspiration when creating your designs?
Art and music. I never follow fashion trends and avoid anything trendy. Also, I love cinema and theatre.
How do you view the evolution of fashion today and how do you keep up with international trends?
I believe we hold a distinct position in fashion because of our unique style and we still have significant room for growth. The only way is up.
What are your plans for the brand Celebrity Skin and is there a specific new direction you want to pursue?
New collections and new collaborations. Something very powerful is being prepared abroad, which I will announce soon.
How do you combine functionality and aesthetics in your designs, especially when creating garments you consider a “second skin”?
It’s simple. A very good pattern-making and proper knowledge of how to use diverse materials are important.
What are you planning for upcoming fashion shows or collections and are there any new materials or technologies you want to explore?
The new collection is ready, featuring more pop elements and a strong use of large sequins. Stay tuned.
