Sydney’s Greek and Serbian communities will come together this month for the 32nd Annual Greek-Serbian Orthodox and Cultural Friendship Day.

The long-running celebration will be held at the Serbian Orthodox Church and Parish Hall of St Archdeacon Stephen in Rooty Hill on Sunday, September 20.

Organised by the church’s parish and school community, the event celebrates the religious, historical, geographical and cultural ties shared by the Greek and Serbian peoples.

The day will begin with an Orthodox Divine Liturgy before moving into an afternoon of traditional food, music and dancing.

Greek and Serbian community dance groups will take part in the cultural program, alongside performers from Sydney’s Bulgarian and Romanian communities. Organisers have described the expanded line-up as a pan-Balkan celebration, with guests also invited to join the dancing at the end of the day.

Greek and Serbian diplomatic representatives are expected to attend, along with the local state MP and presidents and representatives of Greek community organisations.

Hot food and cold drinks will be available for purchase from midday, with the music and dance program running from 12.30 pm until 5 pm.

The annual celebration aims to bring families, friends and community members together while strengthening the close relationship between Sydney’s Greek and Serbian communities.
