Greece, Egypt hold talks on status of Mount Sinai monastery

A Greek diplomatic delegation led by Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis is in Cairo on Wednesday for talks concerning the status of the Orthodox Monastery of Saint Catherine on Mount Sinai.

Gerapetritis is accompanied by officials from the ministries of education, religious affairs, and culture and sports, and will meet with his Egyptian counterpart, Badr Abdelaty.

The talks aim to assess whether a recent Egyptian court ruling signals a shift in Cairo’s stance on an agreement finalized last December but still unsigned, despite personal assurances from Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.
