Greek Community of Melbourne to host family weekend at Melbourne Museum

In celebration of the National Archaeological Museum of Greece’s Open Horizons exhibition at Melbourne Museum, the Greek Community of Melbourne (GCM) is organising a program of music, dance, food and Hoplites on Saturday, May 28 and Sunday, May 29.

The ‘Open Horizons – Ancient Greek Journeys and Connections’ exhibition features 44 ancient works that date from the Early Bronze Age to the Roman period representing periods of economic and cultural trade between Greece and its neighbours.

It is an incredible opportunity to see some of the most extraordinary collection items all the way from the National Archaeological Museum in Athens.

Accompanying this excellent exhibition will be a program of music and dance featuring Melbourne’s ‘Anagenisi’ and dancers from the Greek Community of Melbourne dance ensemble.

There will also be: food trucks in the plaza via St Gerry’s Loukoumades and Greek Gyro catering, and the awesome site of Melbourne’s Hoplitikon featuring Hoplites in full armour on patrol throughout the Museum, along with workshops and feature items from La Trobe University collection for you to see.

WHEN: Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 May from 11AM

WHERE: Melbourne Museum: 11 Nicholson St, Carlton VIC 3053
