The Greek frigates “Kimon” and “Psara” continue their patrols in the maritime area of Cyprus, which are being refueled from the port of Limassol.
The Hellenic Navy published on Friday on the X platform a video of the departure of “Kimon” from the port of Limassol for patrol, after refueling.
In statements to CNA on Saturday, Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis said that the Greek frigates continue to strengthen the defense of the Republic of Cyprus and continue to patrol the maritime area of Cyprus within the framework of preventive action and measures taken by the Republic, in cooperation with the Greek Government.
The Greek frigates “Kimon” and “Psara” arrived in Cyprus last Wednesday. The frigates are refueled in the port of Limassol and then patrol the area, off the coast of Cyprus.
In the early hours of March 2 a Shahed-type drone struck military facilities in the British Bases, hosted in Akrotiri, in the southern tip of Cyprus, causing minor damage, amid regional turmoil following the US-Israeli attacks on Iran. The attack by the Iranian-made unmanned aerial vehicle, believed to be linked to Hezbollah operating in Lebanon, prompted heightened security measures, while several countries, including Greece and France said they were deploying warships, aircraft and other air defence assets to shield Cyprus. The UK also announced the dispatch of a warship. Nicosia reiterates that it has no involvement in the wider Middle East conflict.
