Greek grandmother Eleni Zakkas lights up Melbourne with her Christmas display

80-year-old Greek grandmother, Eleni Zakkas, from Ivanhoe in Melbourne, Victoria finds joy in turning her house into a Christmas wonderland full of lights each year, The Age has reported.

Eleni’s hobby began in 2005, following 18 months of chemotherapy for her lymphoma.

“Every year, I’d buy a little bit, and then a little bit more,” Eleni told The Age“It makes me very happy.”

Eleni switches on the Christmas lights every day after sunset, and sits on the porch listening to carols and chatting to passers-by.

A Christmas tree full of angels, baubles and pine cones can be seen from the loungeroom window.

“The lights are my holidays,” she said. “When they’re on, the house doesn’t look the same, it’s another world. I feel it’s Christmas.”
