Greek grid operator to help upgrade Libyan power network

Greece’s power grid operator said Thursday it will help modernize Libya’s electricity network.

The Independent Power Transmission Operator (IPTO), said it signed a memorandum of understanding with the Fund for Development and Reconstruction of Libya in Benghazi, eastern Libya, on January 14.

An IPTO statement said that the agreement would involve the Greek operator drawing up studies on upgrading and digitizing the Libyan power network, exchanges of know-how and training services to help modernize Libya’s networks and boost its economic reconstruction.

The agreement came on the sidelines of a Greek-Libyan development forum in Benghazi.
