Hull City continue summer rebuild with Leeds United swoop

Hull City have continued their summer rebuild with the appointment of Jonathan Madden as their new Head of Academy Physical Performance. Madden joins from Leeds United after 14 months with the club, where he had the same role during a time where the academy proved vital to the Whites’ narrow survival.

Leeds broke a Premier League record as they handed eight debuts to teenagers in a single season, and the Tigers will be hoping Madden can contribute to a similar level of success. Madden had a brief internship with the Tigers back in 2010 but has spent the majority of his career so far at Middlesbrough, where he spent nine years before his move to Leeds.

His career has now gone full circle with a return to East Yorkshire and becomes the latest piece of the City jigsaw as Acun Ilicali continues his summer rebuild both on and off the pitch. City have been linked to a number of big signings during the early stages of the summer transfer window, but appointments such as Madden’s in the background are arguably just as important at the moment.

Writing on LinkedIn ahead of his move, Madden said: “It has been a privilege and honour to have worked for this fantastic football club and with some incredibly talented players and staff. I wish everyone connected with Leeds United every success in the future both on and off the pitch.”

He then added on Twitter: “I am extremely excited to be starting my role next week at Hull City academy as Head of Physical Performance.”
