Pythagoras Greek School’s End-of-Year Christmas Concert was a joyful celebration of Greek culture, tradition, and creativity, bringing together families and the wider community.

The evening featured a rich program of plays, songs, poems, and dances inspired by the spirit of Christmas.

The Prep to Year 2 students warmed hearts as they recreated the Nativity scene, while older primary students filled the stage with humour and energy dressed as mischievous Kalikantzarakia.

Their performance included lively dances such as Podaraki and Tsakonikos, delighting the audience and showcasing Greek folklore in action.

A major highlight was the arrival of Santa Claus – not who many expected.

Through a clever theatrical twist, students learned about the true Greek Santa, St Basil, whose message of generosity, compassion, and giving resonated strongly with all.

Dance played a central role throughout the concert. High school students performed Μακεδονία Ξακουστή, Tsirigotikos, and Karagouna, while VCE students impressed with powerful and expressive performances of Hasapiko and Zeibekiko.

Founded in 1969 by George and Anastasia Roubos, Pythagoras Greek School began with just 15 students in Elwood and grew into one of Melbourne’s leading Greek schools.

Today, it continues to nurture confident learners who are proud to be Greek Australian and deeply connected to their language, history, and culture.
