Meghan Markle and Harry carried out ‘obvious revenge’ leaving Queen ‘distressed’

The Duke and the Duchess of Sussex unleashed a series of explosive claims during their landmark interview with Oprah Winfrey, which aired exclusively on ITV on Monday evening. During the discussion Meghan said she sought help after she lost the will to live but “nothing was ever done”.

Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams – who at the time of his interview with had not seen the program in full – gave his insight on the subject.

He said: “The big problem with this is it is obvious revenge. I always said that they needn’t have done this.

“I said it because what was so important was they were doing so well.

“Child two is due in the summer, they’ve got Netflix and Spotify deals, and if the pandemic permits, they’ll launch Archewell.

“They’ve won their case against Associated Newspapers, they could have talked to Oprah about other matters – motherhood and philanthropy and the future.”

Mr Fitzwilliams also highlighted the impact the allegations likely had on the Queen.

The royal commentator added: “I think she will be much distressed by it because it’s an attack on the monarchy and she is its head, there’s no doubt about. I mean, it is a form of revenge.

“All her life she’s served the nation so devotedly and the British people I think will respond to that.”

ITV aired the interview in full on Monday night, as well as streaming it on ITV Hub, Courtesy of Harpo Productions/CBS.

The couple have been questioned on their serious remarks by viewers and royal experts, with long time critic Piers Morgan launching a scathing attack on them and labelling the interview a “trash-athon”.

During Monday’s edition of Good Morning Britain, the host said: “I am angry to the point of bawling over. I’m sickened by what I’ve just had to watch.”

Co-host Susanna Reid added: “People might be upset and moved by what they heard.”

Mr Morgan responded: “You can defend it in a minute. I’m just going to say what I want to say.

“This is a two-hour trash-athon of our Royal Family, of the monarchy, of everything the Queen has worked so hard for and it’s all been done as Prince Philip lies in hospital.”
