Government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis described Moody’s decision to upgrade Greece’s economy to investment grade as a significant development, in a social media post.
“The upgrade of the Greek economy by Moody’s, the last credit rating agency recognized by the European Central Bank that had yet to upgrade our country, is an extremely significant development for Greece and our economy,” said Marinakis.
Marinakis said that the rating agency’s announcement highlights “the rapid reduction of debt, the increase in revenues through measures against tax evasion, the budget’s overperformance, and the decline in non-performing loans.”
He criticized the reaction of the main opposition party, PASOK, accusing them of responding “with pettiness” as they chose to focus on criticizing the government rather than acknowledging the report’s significance.
