New British Museum trustee opposes Parthenon Sculptures repatriation

One of the five new trustees to the British Museum apointed by UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer is a vocal proponent of keeping the Parthenon Sculptures and has published a book about the subject.

Dr. Tiffany Jenkins, described as “a writer and academic” in the UK government web site announcing the appointments Friday, published in 2016 a book called “Keeping Their Marbles: How the Treasures of the Past Ended Up in Museums – And Why They Should Stay”. She has further published articles arguing that western museums should not repatriate treasures taken, most often by dubious means, from their countries of origin.

Also appointed as museum trustees are Lord Daniel Finkelstein, a Times columnist and advisor to past Conservative governments, historian and broadcaster Tom Holland, BBC presenter Martha Kearney and radio and TV broadcaster Claudia Winkelman.
