Paphos man admits killing brother-in-law at family gathering

A 50-year-old man pleaded guilty on Wednesday to the murder of his brother-in-law during a family gathering in Peyia last July.

The Paphos Criminal Court scheduled the next hearing for March 4, when the defendant will enter pleas for additional minor charges related to the case.

The fatal incident occurred during a family gathering on July 3, when an argument broke out between the accused and his 43-year-old brother-in-law, police said.

After initially leaving the scene following the intervention of other family members, the suspect returned minutes later with a firearm and fatally shot the victim before fleeing the location.

Police arrested the suspect early the following morning.

During questioning, he reportedly admitted to the crime, authorities said.
