North Korea fired a suspected ballistic missile early on Wednesday, the first such test by Pyongyang of the new year, drawing condemnation from Japan and calls for talks from South Korea.
North Korea on Tuesday launched at least one ballistic missile into the sea off its east coast, the South Korean and Japanese militaries confirmed.
Details of the launch are being analysed by South Korean and US authorities. But Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga said it “could be a ballistic missile” – which can be used to carry large nuclear warheads and is banned under United Nations sanctions.
