Turkish aircraft violates Greek airspace

A Turkish CN-235 maritime patrol aircraft violated Greek airspace twice on Tuesday, according to the Hellenic National Defense General Staff (GEETHA).

The same aircraft also entered the Athens Flight Information Region (FIR) without submitting a flight plan, GEETHA reported.

In response, Greek fighter jets intercepted the Turkish aircraft in accordance with international rules of engagement.

Turkish airspace violations have decreased over the past 18 months, coinciding with a diplomatic rapprochement between the two Aegean rivals.
