Various security considerations led the Israeli authorities to instruct Israeli airlines flying to Cyprus to use Larnaca International Airport only and suspend their flights from and to Paphos, the Embassy of the country in Nicosia told CNA on Monday.
It also said that it would be monitoring the situation closely, in full coordination with local authorities.
Invited by CNA to comment on a decision by the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) for security reasons to instruct the Israeli airlines ELAL, Arkia, and Israir to change the routes of all their flights to Cyprus, so that all their aircraft land exclusively at Larnaca Airport and not to Paphos airport, the Israeli Embassy said that “in light of various security considerations, a decision has been made to temporarily consolidate Israeli airline flights — to and from Cyprus — in Larnaca”.
It further added that “the situation will continue to be closely monitored and evaluated in full coordination with local authorities”.
