The 90th Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF) opened Saturday with more than 1,000 exhibitors from 25 countries, with Japan serving as the honored country and a program of events marking 100 years since the fair was first held in 1926.

The nine-day event at the Thessaloniki International Exhibition and Conference Centre features 11 thematic sections covering sectors ranging from entrepreneurship and energy to technology, research, education, gastronomy and retail.

Japan is the focus of Pavilion 13, where 25 companies and organizations are showcasing products and services across sectors including automotive, pharmaceuticals, health care, energy, digital technology, agriculture, manufacturing, tourism and shipping. More than 40 events will also highlight Japanese culture, including traditional music and dance, calligraphy and activities devoted to anime, manga and cosplay.

The fair’s centenary is being marked by a special exhibition, “TIF, 100 Years of Future,” organized with the MOMus Museum of Contemporary Art. The exhibition uses archival material, historical documents, photographs and audiovisual displays to trace the fair’s development and its relationship with technological progress.

The business program includes pre-arranged meetings between Greek and international companies, with a focus on sectors including automotive, pharmaceuticals and tourism. Pavilion 17 brings together education, technology, research and innovation initiatives, while a new Wellness & Fitness Arena offers activities focused on health, nutrition and sport.
