The Association of European Journalists (AEJ) successfully organized its 62nd International Congress and Annual General Meeting in Rome, 62 years since its foundation in San Remo. The Greek section elected three members to the new administration of the Association of European Journalists. Dr. Panagiotis Sfaelos was elected as Vice-President, Vasiliki Doufexi was elected to the Audit Committee, while Lena Kyropoulos was elected as the Association’s Representative in Brussels after a proposal by the previous President of AEJ International Saia Tsaousidou.
Arber Hitaj was elected to the Presidency of the Association of European Journalists from the Albanian section, succeeding Saia Tsaoudiou, for many years President of the international section of the Association of European Journalists and President of the Greek section with a great contribution to journalism. Catalin Theodore Dogaru was elected Secretary General from the Romanian section. Irina Nedeva was elected Second Vice-President from the Bulgarian section and Brigitte Rambossek was elected Third Vice-President from the Austrian section. Ivan Brada was elected Treasurer from the Slovak section. William Horsley was elected Media Freedom Representative from the British section.
The following were elected to the Arbitration Committee: Eileen Dunne, Brindusa Armanca, Javier Fernandez Arribas, Carmelo Occhino and Martha Janckarova. The following were elected to the Audit Committee: Tim Ryan, David Worsfold, Javier Domingues, Vassiliki Ntoufexi and Qamil Xhani.
The International Conference of the European Journalists’ Association, held at the Tre University in Rome, was coordinated by the long-time international President of the European Journalists’ Association and President of the Greek Section, Saia Tsaoudiou, who was also one of the main speakers.
The topics discussed were related to the position of the EU in the new era, especially after the election of Trump, youth in Europe, artificial intelligence and freedom of the press. As it was emphasized, freedom of the press and the media will be tested with Trump as President of the USA, while artificial intelligence will create a new landscape in the media. Speakers were distinguished journalists, professors and representatives of the national sections of the Association European Journalists.
