Greek PM visits Lebanon aiming to strengthen diplomatic ties, support stability

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis is visiting Lebanon, marking the first visit by a European leader since the recent ceasefire between Israel and Lebanese Hezbollah, as well as developments in Syria. The visit underscores Greece’s intention to strengthen diplomatic relations in the Middle East and send a message in support of stability and peace.

Mitsotakis was welcomed by Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati at the historic Grand Serail government palace, where the two leaders discussed regional issues and bilateral relations.

The Greek prime minister also met with the speaker of the Lebanese Parliament, Nabih Berri, at Ain el-Tineh. Earlier in the day, he held a meeting with the Patriarch of Antioch, John X, in the presence of the Metropolitan of Beirut, Elias.

According to government sources, Mitsotakis highlighted the importance of the ceasefire, describing it as “fragile but necessary” to prevent further humanitarian tragedy.

His visit is part of a broader effort to promote the Lebanese model of agreement as a potential framework for de-escalation in Gaza.

“Greece and Lebanon are traditionally bound by strong ties of friendship, and during his meetings, the prime minister is expected to reaffirm Greece’s readiness to assist in strengthening Lebanon’s state institutions – among them, the Armed Forces, which play a crucial role in enforcing the ceasefire,” government sources stated earlier.
