Josh Huck, deputy chief of mission at the US Embassy in Greece, has been appointed interim US ambassador to Greece following Kimberly Guilfoyle’s resignation on Tuesday.
A career diplomat, Huck previously served as deputy assistant secretary of state overseeing policy for Southern Europe and the Caucasus, and as director of the Office of Southern European Affairs, which covers Cyprus, Greece, Malta and Turkey.
His overseas postings have included Shanghai, Tokyo, Sofia, Yangon, Taipei and Hong Kong. In Washington, he has held positions in the State Department’s Offices of Chinese Affairs and Korean Affairs, as well as serving as director of the Office of the Deputy Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs under Kurt Campbell.
Huck holds a degree from Johns Hopkins University, a master’s degree from the International University of Japan and a certificate from Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies in Bologna, Italy. He speaks Mandarin Chinese, Japanese, Burmese and Bulgarian.
Guilfoyle stepped down after serving in Athens for just under a year. Her resignation followed weeks of media reports alleging that she had sought payment from a donor supporting US President Donald Trump in exchange for access to administration officials.
