Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said Sunday in his weekly address that Greece’s pursuit of regional stability does not mean accepting concessions or faits accomplis, as he stressed the country’s defense capabilities and active foreign policy.

Writing from Kastellorizo, a Greek island near Turkey’s southern coast, Mitsotakis said Greece “threatens no one” and seeks stable relations based on international law. He cited maritime-zone agreements with Italy and Egypt, the expansion of territorial waters in the Ionian Sea and Greece’s acquisition of Rafale fighter jets and new frigates.

He also said the “Achilles Shield” air-defense program is moving into implementation following an agreement with Israel. The system is expected to include Greek-developed command-and-control software and strengthen the country’s air defenses.

Later, speaking at celebrations marking the 83rd anniversary of Kastellorizo’s liberation, Mitsotakis announced new permanent financial incentives aimed at encouraging people to live and work on the remote island.

Public-sector employees, security forces personnel and military staff serving on Kastellorizo will receive an additional €5,000 a year. Households will also receive a tax-free annual allowance of €5,000, rising by €1,000 for each minor child, provided they have lived on the island for at least a full year. The household allowance will begin in early 2027 for current residents and in 2028 for new residents.

Mitsotakis said the goal was to make Kastellorizo a permanent home for more people. He also said Greece was prepared to defend its territorial integrity and sovereign rights while keeping dialogue and international law at the center of its foreign policy.
