Greece’s trade deficit recorded a decrease of 18.8% in August this year, as the decline in the value of imports far exceeded that of exports, the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) said on Wednesday.
According to ELSTAT data on merchandise trade, the total value of imports in August amounted to 5.45 billion euros, compared with €6.26 billion in the same month of 2024, showing a decrease of 13% (excluding petroleum products, there was a decrease of €173.8 million or 3.8%, while excluding petroleum products and ships, the decrease was €222.7 million or 4.9%).
The total value of exports reached €3.35 billion, against €3.68 billion in August 2024, down by 8.9%.
The trade deficit amounted to €2.1 billion, compared with €2.58 billion in August 2024. During the eight-month period (January-August 2025), the trade deficit came to €21.7 billion, compared with €22.15 billion in the same period of 2024, showing a decrease of 2%.
