A two-day visit of the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Maria Panayiotou, on June 25-27, in the Netherlands, marks a significant step towards enhancing bilateral cooperation in rural development and innovation, a Ministry announcement says.
The visit also provided a chance for knowledge transfer and the exchange of best practices, while contributing to preparations ahead of Cyprus’ EU Presidency, in the first term of 2026.
Panayiotou’s visit took place in the framework of expanding bilateral cooperation in the field of agriculture and agricultural nutrition, following the visit of the Royal Couple of the Netherlands to Cyprus.
Within the aim of enhancing bilateral cooperation, it was decided to increase exchanges between farmers and other stakeholders, and participate in joint actions promoting innovation and sustainable rural development.
Panayiotou met with her counterpart, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Safety and Nature of the Netherlands, Femke Marije Wiersma. Also, the delegation from Cyprus visited pioneering agri-food units and facilities for innovative agriculture techniques, such as hydroponic systems, vertical crops, as well as a potato seed genetic improvement center. There was another visit to the “Farm of the Future”, as well as to a modern cattle breeding unit, the announcement says.
