BOSTON – An anti-vaccination student movement has been formed at the Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology in Boston with between fifteen and twenty students participating. It is reported that the students are close to various monasteries in the United States, and also to a circle of fundamentalists in Greece and Cyprus who refuse to get the vaccine.

They allegedly cite health reasons to avoid being vaccinated, while a Greek-American doctor, who is not a vaccine specialist, seems to also be involved, providing certificates that justify vaccination avoidance.

The National Herald has learned that these students are being encouraged by at least one faculty member who is a priest, who is acting behind the scenes despite the fact that there is an official announcement from the School Presidency stating that all students coming to the School in September, new and existing students, must be fully vaccinated.

The National Herald has been in communication with the President of the School, George Kantonis, who is in Greece evaluating opportunities for cooperation between academic institutions in Greece and Holy Cross. He told us that, “we will manage the School in the best interest of the School and the best interest of our Greek Orthodox Church in America,” and added, “I will say more on Monday.”

TNH also informed Archbishop Elpidophoros of America in writing about the issue that has arisen in the School and is waiting for a statement from him.

It is noted The National Herald had raised this issue on June 25 in its Greek Edition with a commentary in the Praktorika column titled ‘Nobody has been vaccinated at the School,’ emphasizing that the School is home to several married students who live there with their families, including young children, so the School’s responsibility is even greater.

Caution is required as this is a serious issue, not only due to the need to vaccinate all students, but also because it raises the question of what sort of students are attending and entering the School. What are their mindsets and their pasts? The situation brings to mind the well-known aphorism: “the wrecks of life become liturgies of the highest God.”
